Wellington's historic Cinemas

For this assignment we had to create a booklet showcasing three destinations in Wellington. I chose three cinemas that had a interesting historic story. The style I mixed an old feel in with a fresh look to encourage both old and young to visit the cinemas.

Australia needs our help

Throughout history Australia has constantly made bad decisions.
Firstly they forgot that their country lies across the tropics, which they continually complain that’s its too hot and dry.
They forgot how to spell New Zealand and instead miss-printed it as ‘Australasia”.
They forgot to breed a horse like Phar Lap, create a dessert like Pavlova and raise a kid like Russell Crowe.
They are likely to forget more without our help. So if you are a true New Zealander you will move to Australia and help them to make good decisions.

Where would Australia be without us?
The ANZAC’s would just be AAC, which doesn’t have nearly the same ring to it.
They would have stuck an extra star onto another countries flag and called it their own.
They would have to have found another country to steal celebrities, prized racehorses and dessert recipes from.
And they wouldn’t even have been able to claim that they indirectly won soccer.
Australia wouldn’t have anything without us.
If you are a true New Zealander you will help them.
Move to Australia.

This assignment was extremely broad. We had to just chose something to sell, so I chose to sell the idea to move Australia to New Zealanders. I made it light and entertaining and relevant to kiwi's attitude to eagerly help out someone in need.

New Zealand Film Festival

In this assignment I learn't to use Dreamweaver to create a fully working website. I kept my design clean and simple to focus on trying to use dreamweaver.

Typography

For this assignment we had to design and hand draw our own typeface. It took many hours to hand draw every letter. The curved letters were the hardest.

Hemmingway Challenge

She said no. He didn't listen.

Two men. One gun. No witnesses.

The Hemmingway Challenge is to write a story in six words. Hemmingway considered that his six word story was his greatest work. It's harder than it looks.

How to Pick a Lock

This assignment was an introduction on how to use flash. I went for the grunge and dirty look along with animated graphics to visually explain the steps.

Grahame Sydney

This assignment was for the Wellington city gallery. It features the artist, Grahame Sydney's work and an essay he wrote. I wanted to keep the style structured, clean and sophisticated to help reflect the content.

Writing in a banana with a biro

Writing on a banana is like doing something you know you shouldn't really be doing but you do it anyway.
It's like knocking down road cones that were neatly lined up.
It's like the need to touch something that says 'don't touch'.

It's the desire to rebel.
It's satisfying the urge.
It's writing on a banana.

Something you just have to do.
This brief we were given was pretty broad. We just had to describe what it was like to write on a banana.

Iceblock

As a pair we had to come up with a new brand for an iceblock. We went for an indie feel as that is what is in at the moment, with this we thought it would be appropriate to write a song to accompany our brand. We then got up in class and sung it as part of our presentation.

Our song as follows was sung to the tune of Anyone else but you by the Moldy Peaches:

So your lookin for a treat on a hot sunny day
But your bored of all the choices they're so cliche
You might wanna try an alternative treat
Its called iiiiiceblock

Its a wicked iceblock with two awesome flavours
Fejoa and apple both tastes you'll want to savour
and they're both heaps different from all of the rest
of the iiiiiceblocks

If you've got loose change rattlin round in your pocket
Then shoot off to the dairy real fast like a rocket
Its only a dollar eighty which is cheaper than heaps of the rest
of the iiiiceblocks

Twenty five percent fruit juice is whats inside
Twenty percent more than fruju it that helps you decide what to buy
when your lookin around
for an iiiiiceblock

If your liking our song, check out our point of purchase
Lady Hawk, Liam Finn, singin songs, makin a din
we got a few indie musicians singin about
this iiiiiceblock

do do do do do do do do do do do
do do do do do do do do do do do
do do do do do do do do do do do
Iiiiiceblock

Wellington City Gallery Spring Programme

This booklet was an assignment for Wellington City Gallery spring programme. The booklet folds out into a A2 calandar. For the calandar we were only allowed to used two colours with a strong grid. I tried to keep my design simple to show off the artwork.

Flat Ad

Free Water!
That's right you get free water when you move into this flat. And it's not just free, it's absolutely free. With one easy, weekly installment of $129.99, you receive water for nothing. Anytime you want it night or day. It's on the floor, it's on the windows. It's even on the walls!
This offer is for a limited time only, so get in quick.

This was an interesting brief, I wrote this ad in my sleep, literally. We had to write an ad to sell our flat and I really struggled with it and I just couldn't think of anything so I took a nap and had a dream woke up and wrote it down and this is what I came up with.

Blackbox Headphones

This is a series of radio ads for black box headphones directed at everyday commuters, with the idea that it blocks out all those annoying chatter and conversations on public transport.

BMW fold up mountian bike

This ad is an idea for the new BMW fold up mountain bike that you can fit in the boot of your mini.
